SmartCatch is an advanced video surveillance technology that identifies potential security breaches based on pre-programmed behaviours. SmartCatch software analyses live video input streams and flags suspicious behaviour.

SmartCatch can be used to monitor behaviours in crowds, perimeters or people in the street, who may be loitering or acting suspiciously, and works with all existing CCTV cameras. The system works both indoors and outdoors.

SmartCatch can be deployed to monitor:

  • crowds
  • exit lanes
  • unattended objects
  • parked vehicles
  • human piggybacking
  • loitering
  • perimeter intrusion
  • turnstile violation
  • vehicle tailgating.

Behaviour modules can be used to track people, objects and vehicles based on your requirements. Each module can be configured in line with your organisation’s security policy.

Easy to configure for your specific security policies including when, where and how alerts are delivered. Also allows the escalation of notification and delivery via a wide variety of communication devices.

Multi-camera views

Enables viewing of multiple cameras simultaneously and shows alert details and provides a listing of previous alerts.

The following outlines the features and capabilities of each behaviour module:

Crowd detection

Based on a specified occupancy rate of the area, SmartCatch can accurately notify authorities to take action on overcrowding. Capabilities include:

  • indoor and outdoor usage
  • detects overcrowding based on capacity and occupancy rate
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions.

Exit lane

SmartCatch’s exit lane module detects any person or object crossing a pre-defined area in the wrong direction. Any person or object that crosses the area will cause an event to be generated. SmartCatch can monitor separate warning and alarm areas providing escalating levels of alerts for each. Capabilities include:

  • indoor and outdoor usage
  • detection of counter direction crossing
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • highly accurate even in crowded situation
  • security guard recognition filter.

Human piggybacking

SmartCatch detects piggybacking when two or more people move through a door or gate without the door or gate fully closing between their entries. It is designed to track unauthorised entry by piggybacking on a legal access. Capabilities include:

  • indoor and outdoor usage
  • track one or multiple people or objects
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • accurate regardless of size, speed and number of objects or people
  • able to synchronise with other sensors like access control for comprehensive security management.

Loitering

SmartCatch can detect people staying in one area longer than usual. The movement tracked can be running or walking. SmartCatch can individually track multiple people who may be loitering in the same place at the same time. Capabilities include:

  • indoor or outdoor usage
  • multiple concurrent people tracked
  • user configurable loitering time setting
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • up to ten areas of interest can be defined by the user.

Perimeter intrusion

SmartCatch is able to detect, track and classify objects entering into the perimeter of the camera field of view. Its robust filtering feature significantly reduces background noise created by varying weather conditions. Capabilities include:

  • outdoor usage
  • detects and tracks object as small as four by four pixels
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • classifies people or vehicle based on speed, and activity
  • continuous tracking even when an object or person disappears and reappears in the scene due to temporary blocking.

Removed objects

SmartCatch can detect any size object being removed from a monitored area. It is designed to protect valuables from being stolen or damaged. The monitored area can be the whole camera view or a user defined area. Capabilities include:

  • indoor and outdoor usage
  • detects any size of object, even in crowded scene
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions.

Unattended objects

SmartCatch can selectively detect objects of specified sizes like boxes or luggage being placed in the monitored area for a period of time. The monitored area can be the whole camera view or a user defined area. The noise filter feature enables detection of the unattended object in a crowded area or under changing weather conditions. Capabilities include:

  • indoor and outdoor usage
  • detects any size of object, even in crowded scene
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions.

Stopped vehicles

SmartCatch can detect any size vehicle that is stationary for longer than a specified time. This includes monitoring small to large vehicles like a passenger car, moving van or truck. Capabilities include:

  • outdoor usage
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • highly accurate, even in crowded street
  • added flexibility to detect only certain size vehicle.

Turnstile violation

Many access gates are controlled by turnstiles. SmartCatch can detect unauthorised entry by hopping over or crawling under these. Capabilities include:

  • indoor usage
  • works in varying illumination, shadows and reflections
  • works with mechanical or optical turnstiles
  • able to synchronise with the turnstile software for comprehensive security management.

Vehicle tailgating

SmartCatch detects tailgating when two or more vehicles move through an access gate without it fully closing between entries. It is designed to track unauthorised entry by tailgating on a legal access. Capabilities include:

  • able to track one or multiple vehicles tailgating
  • able to track people tailgating a vehicle
  • works in varying illumination, shadows, reflections and weather conditions
  • accurate regardless of size and speed of the vehicle
  • able to synchronise with other sensors like access control for comprehensive security management.

SmartCatch console

The Console has two primary functions:

  1. Security personnel use the console to monitor SmartCatch events and to receive event alarms when the system detects a targeted behaviour from one or more of the cameras.
  2. Administrators use it to configure the SmartCatch server for defining the customer’s alert escalation policies and other setup preferences. The console provides the minimum necessary functionality for security personnel and manager login profiles, whereas administrators are given full console functionality. The console is offered as both a PC installable program or as a browser console.

SmartCatch server

The server is the hub of the SmartCatch solution. Its primary function is to receive messages from the SmartCatch enabled cameras when a predetermined behaviour is detected (and to receive messages from any other integrated sensor system), and to alert security personnel.  Alerts are distributed through the console or other communication devices based upon escalation processes and configured response procedures. Alert procedures can be flexibly defined in the server in order to respond exactly as the customer requires. The server is also used to setup and configure multiple behaviour plug-ins and manages the SmartCatch system information database.

SmartCatch VPU

The Video Processing Unit (VPU) manages the computational work analysing video input to behaviour plug-ins. The VPU can manage multiple behaviour plug-ins with multiple camera devices.  Multiple VPUs may be required to run on multiple servers depending upon each server’s CPU capacity.

SmartCatch behavior plug-ins

Behaviour plug-ins are modules that connect into the VPU and are configured with a specific camera device. Vidient provides many different behaviour plug-ins that may be installed based on the customer’s security requirements.

Vehicle tailgating

An alert will result upon detection of a vehicle or person passing a vehicle control point without authorisation following an approved vehicle access.

Unattended object

An alert will result upon detection of a placed or removed object within configured camera area and duration of non-movement.

Human loitering: An alert will result upon detection of a person remaining within configured camera area and duration.

Human tailgating: An alert will result upon detection of person(s) passing a control point following an authorised person access event within configured camera area.
